Shordindu Cloth Brand Review:
In 2016, Habiba Akter Shurovy, a second-year university student, was doing tuition to earn pocket money, but she kept looking for better alternatives.
Soon she started selling clothes she designed and dyed, and over time, her venture grew into a full-fledged brand now known as ‘Shordindu’. After a while, one of her closest friends, now her husband, joined the business under a 50-50 partnership.
She first owned Shorodindu, an online shop, and today, she has three outlets across Dhaka: Happy Arcade Dhanmondi, ZamZam Tower Uttara, and Bashundhara City.
Shorodindu was formed in 2017. Besides managing the shop, Shurovy tutored young students. Later, she took up fashion design as a full-time profession.
“People at my campus were not in favor of me running a business from the university dorm,” explains Shurovy. “So, I took all my belongings from the dorm and left. I started the business independently, without any financial assistance from my parents. They are really supportive otherwise.”
Shurovy faced many hurdles and huge losses at the beginning of her journey, as she was a novice in entrepreneurship. During that time, Tanbir H Rifat, her friend who is also a photographer, offered her a business partnership. They got married to each other last year.
“Each of Shurovy’s designs and dresses has stories to tell. All her dresses have a theme and a mood,” explains Rifat. “We try to keep our prices affordable for young women.”
Shurovy, who started her business with very little capital and no prior experience, truly has made a mark in the field of fashion. Alongside maintaining trustworthy relationships with her clients, the young designer hopes to continue her higher education.
